Editorial policy

ChatGPT Ads change often, and a lot of what’s written about them is out of date. These are the rules we follow so you can tell what’s current and where it came from.

Every platform fact has a source

Any statement about how ChatGPT Ads work names the OpenAI page it comes from: the Help Center, the developer documentation, the ad policies or OpenAI’s announcements. Each page links its sources once, in its Sources list or source notes, and the labels next to facts tell you which of those sources a fact comes from.

Official and reported are labeled

When a detail comes from press coverage or other advertisers rather than from OpenAI, we say it’s reported and link the source. Figures from the early pilot that no longer apply are described as history, not as current fact.

Pages show when they were last checked

Pages about the platform carry a “last verified” date: the day we last checked them against OpenAI’s documentation. We aim to re-check them when OpenAI changes its documentation or announces something new, so look at the date to see how current a page is.

When OpenAI’s pages disagree

OpenAI’s Help Center and developer docs don’t always match, for example on whether view-through conversions count in the main Conversions total. When that happens we say so, show both versions and tell you which to rely on in practice, rather than quietly picking one.

Opinions and examples are labeled

Advice that goes beyond what OpenAI documents is marked as our view. Example ads, context hints and budgets are labeled as illustrative: they show how something works, not what results to expect.

No invented numbers

We don’t publish benchmarks, prices or results we can’t back up. Where OpenAI publishes no figure, such as a typical cost per click or click-through rate, we say so instead of filling the gap with a guess.

Our own numbers come with context

If we publish results from campaigns, we’ll say how much data they’re based on and what they can’t tell you, and we won’t name a client or share their figures without permission.

Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us. If we got it wrong, we’ll correct it and update the page’s date. Our trackers keep a changelog, so you can see what changed and when.

Independence

We’re an independent agency, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI.
