ChatGPT Ads for B2B and SaaS companies
People ask ChatGPT to compare tools, plan projects and solve problems at work. Software can advertise in every ChatGPT Ads market, but B2B has one big catch: nobody sees ads while using ChatGPT through a company Business or Enterprise plan.
At a glance
| Policy | Software is allowed in every market |
| The catch | Business and Enterprise users see no ads |
| Tracking | Sign-ups, demos, trials, subscriptions |
| CRM | A HubSpot integration |
Fit
Where software companies stand
- Software is allowed. Digital products are an early focus category, and OpenAI’s eligibility table allows even financial and health software in every market.
- The funnel is measurable. OpenAI’s standard events include trial starts, paid subscriptions, lead forms, booked demos and completed registrations.
- It connects to HubSpot. You can create campaigns, capture leads in your CRM and see contacts and customers from ChatGPT Ads inside HubSpot.
- But work accounts see no ads. Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts never show ads, and nor do Plus and Pro. Only Free, Go and logged-out users see them.

Policy
Which software can advertise?
Most business software is fine. The exceptions are products that move money or that compete with OpenAI.
| Product | Where it stands | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Business software and digital products | In scope: digital products are among the categories ads focus on in the early phases. | Ad policies |
| Financial software | Allowed in the US and every other market, as long as it doesn’t promote financial products or transactions. | Help Center |
| Health software and infrastructure | Allowed in the US and every other market. | Help Center |
| Payments, personal loans, buy now pay later and crypto | Limited to select approved advertisers in the US, and not allowed in other markets. | Help Center |
| Recruiting platforms | Ads for individual job listings aren’t allowed. A platform can advertise if neither the ad nor the page references a specific listing. | Ad policies |
| Products that compete with OpenAI | Since version 1.6, OpenAI can decline ads that conflict with its advertising principles, business interests or competitive position. | Ad policies |
Audience
Who you can and can’t reach
You can’t target job titles, company size or industry. OpenAI’s controls are locations, platforms and your own customer lists, and the conversation does the rest.
- Company plans are out of reach. Someone using their employer’s Business or Enterprise workspace won’t see your ads there. They may have a personal Free account too.
- Exclude your customers. A custom audience of existing customers can be excluded at any size, so you don’t pay to reach people who already pay you.
- Prospect lists need scale. Including an audience, or adjusting bids for it, needs at least 25,000 matched users, and OpenAI recommends 100,000. Our view: lists of work email addresses may match fewer people if your buyers use personal accounts for ChatGPT.
- Europe is different. Campaigns targeting the EEA or Switzerland can’t use custom audiences while personalized ads aren’t available there.
Our view: aim at the problems people research for themselves, such as freelancers and small business owners choosing tools, or anyone comparing options before taking one to their team. More on the rules in who sees ChatGPT ads.

Context hints
Describe the problem, not the product category
Buyers explain their situation to ChatGPT before they name a category. Context hints, set per ad group, describe those situations, and OpenAI says they aren’t exact-match keywords.
| Product | Keyword-style (weak) | The situation (stronger) |
|---|---|---|
| Project management | project management software, PM tool | Agency owners juggling client projects in spreadsheets who need one place to track deadlines |
| Accounting | accounting software, bookkeeping app | Freelancers doing their own books who want invoices and expenses in one app before tax season |
| IT security | endpoint security, antivirus for business | Office managers at small firms who need staff laptops secured without an IT team |
| Payroll and HR | payroll software, HR platform | Founders hiring their first employees who need payroll and onboarding sorted |
Link each ad group to the page that answers that situation, such as a use-case page or a comparison, rather than your homepage. Our context hints guide has more examples.
Measurement
Tracking a software funnel
| Step in your funnel | OpenAI’s standard event |
|---|---|
| Account sign-up | registration_completed |
| Demo or contact request | lead_created |
| Demo or sales call booked | appointment_scheduled |
| Free trial started | trial_started, which can carry a plan ID |
| Paid subscription started | subscription_created, which can carry a plan ID and value |
- Optimize for a frequent event. A Conversions campaign optimizes for one standard event, fixed when it’s created, and OpenAI warns that rare events make performance harder to evaluate. Our view: optimize for trials or booked demos, then judge pipeline and revenue in your CRM.
- Send confirmed events from your server. The Conversions API can send subscriptions your billing system confirms, alongside the Pixel, with shared event IDs so nothing counts twice.
- Mind the windows. Ads Manager credits conversions up to 7, 14 or 30 days after a click. Longer sales cycles need your CRM to see the full picture.
- Tag every ad with UTM parameters so the traffic stands apart in your analytics. Here’s why ad clicks can otherwise show up as Direct.

HubSpot
Running ChatGPT Ads from HubSpot
- What you get: create ChatGPT Chat Card campaigns, add new leads straight to your CRM, trigger follow-up workflows, and see impressions, clicks, contacts, customers and cost next to your other ad channels.
- Who can use it: any HubSpot customer wherever ChatGPT Ads are available, on Marketing Hub Free, Starter, Professional or Enterprise.
- Before you connect: if your ChatGPT Ads account belongs to a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise organization, a global admin has to approve HubSpot’s ads access in OpenAI’s Admin Console first. It’s off by default.

Questions
B2B and SaaS questions
Will our buyers see ads if their company uses ChatGPT Enterprise?
Not in that workspace. Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts don’t show ads. The same people may see them on a personal Free or Go account.
Can we target by job title or company size?
No. OpenAI’s targeting options are locations, platforms and custom audiences. Context hints and your landing pages decide which conversations your ads fit.
What should a SaaS campaign optimize for?
A standard event that happens often enough to learn from, usually trials or booked demos rather than closed deals. Custom events can’t be optimization goals.
Can AI software companies advertise?
Software is allowed, but since version 1.6 OpenAI can decline ads that conflict with its business interests or competitive position. If your product competes with OpenAI’s, expect that risk.
What does a test cost?
Ads bill per click or per 1,000 impressions, above a minimum daily budget set by your billing currency. Work back from what a trial or demo is worth with the calculator, and see our 30-day test plan.
