Estimate your results

Start with a daily budget and how you pay. Add your conversion rate and what a conversion is worth to see your cost per conversion, return on ad spend and the most you can afford per click.

Your assumptions

You pay

Averaged over a Sunday–Saturday week. OpenAI's minimum in this currency is 25 USD a day per campaign (Help Center).

OpenAI suggests starting maximum bids of US$3–5 per click (Help Center). The auction sets what you actually pay.

OpenAI publishes no CPM benchmark. Use the average CPM from your own Ads Manager reports.

The share of clicks that become a sale or lead. Your paid-traffic rate from analytics is the best guide.

Average order value. For leads: your close rate × average deal value.

Rules from OpenAI: minimum budgets, daily budgets, pricing basics. Estimates assume the campaign spends its full budget.

For planning, not a forecast. OpenAI’s auction decides what you pay and how often your ads show.

What the calculator assumes

  • Your campaign spends its full budget. Campaigns can underspend when bids aren’t competitive or targeting is narrow. Ads Manager’s bid-strength guidance flags bids that may limit delivery.
  • A month is 30.4 days, a year divided by 12. Daily budgets are averages over a budget week that runs Sunday to Saturday, so one day can spend up to twice the budget, and a week never more than seven times it.
  • OpenAI’s minimums are built in. Each billing currency has a minimum daily budget per campaign, such as 25 USD, 15 EUR or 725 INR. Pick your currency and the calculator warns you when a budget is below it. The full table is on our availability tracker.
  • You supply the cost per click or per 1,000 impressions. OpenAI sets actual costs in a relevance-weighted, second-price auction, so swap the starting figure for Ads Manager’s average CPC or CPM once you have data.
  • Conversions come from clicks. Conversion-optimized campaigns bill per click or per impression, never per conversion, so pick the matching option. With impression billing, OpenAI can also count conversions that follow a view; this calculator leaves those out.
  • No invented benchmarks. We haven’t found official figures for click-through rate, conversion rate or CPM, so those fields start empty.
  • Ad spend only. Our fees are separate: see pricing.

How the numbers are worked out

Every figure in the calculator shows its working underneath. These are the formulas behind them.

FigureFormula
Ad spendDaily budget × 30.4
Clicks, paying per clickDaily budget ÷ cost per click × 30.4
ImpressionsDaily budget ÷ CPM × 1,000 × 30.4
Clicks, paying per impressionImpressions × click-through rate
ConversionsClicks × conversion rate
Cost per conversionAd spend ÷ conversions
RevenueConversions × value per conversion
Return on ad spendRevenue ÷ ad spend
Break-even cost per clickValue per conversion × conversion rate. Pay more per click and ad spend outruns revenue.

A worked example

Say a sale is worth $100 to you and 3% of the people who click go on to buy. Your break-even cost per click is $3: $100 × 3%.

That’s the bottom of the $3–5 range OpenAI suggests for starting maximum bids. If clicks cost $5, you’d need a 5% conversion rate, or orders worth about $167, to break even. Open this example in the calculator.

Illustrative numbers, not benchmarks.

Where to find your inputs

  • Conversion rate and value go together. Use purchases with average order value, or leads with what a lead is worth. Your analytics has the rate; paid traffic is the closest match.
  • Value per conversion. For leads, multiply your close rate by your average deal value. Enter gross margin instead of revenue if you want to break even on profit.
  • Cost per click. Start near OpenAI’s suggested $3–5 maximum bid, then use the average CPC from Ads Manager once your ads run.
  • CPM and click-through rate. Ads Manager reports both. Until you have your own, estimates in per-impression mode are guesses.
